Peaceful Conversations
Mediation is a process to address conflict in a peaceful and respectful manner. The Mediation Process is a well researched and recognized process world wide to facilitate conversations to reach solutions to conflict. The Mediation Process includes components to encourage open and transparent conversations in a calm and productive manner.
The role of the Mediator is to protect the Mediation Process. Protecting the Mediation Process includes maintaining behaviours that are conducive to resolving conflict. The Mediation Process requires that clients be patience in listening to the other client, be respectful of their views, be open to the views of the other person, try to understand those views and fully disclose their positions. These components of Mediation promote better understanding of each of the client’s situations, in a calm peaceful manner.
Mediation focuses on the future. Mediation does not dwell on the past. Discussions in the Mediation Process will not review details of past events or discuss blame.
Mediation will facilitate discussions to identify the needs and interests of the clients. The Mediation Process will guide the clients to work out solutions that meet their needs and interests for the future in a peaceful and respectful manner.
